Achieving the Correct Grip Pressure for More Distance

Correct golf club grip pressure is often one of the most overlooked factors when
achieving maximum distance.

If you grip your club too tightly, your muscles become firm, rigid and far less flexible.

On the flip side, if your grip is too loose you sacrifice control of your club and decrease your ability to hit the right spot on the ball consistently.

The trick to finding the right grip pressure is this:

  • Hold your club in front of you, pointing it vertically to the sky. Your sand wedge typically will have the heaviest head and works well for this.
  • If you’re a right handed golfer, place your left hand on the bottom of the grip with just enough pressure in your last three fingers to keep the club vertical or from leaning over.
  • Bring in your right hand so that it is in the correct grip position. There should be no pressure on this hand but still make full contact with the grip and work in together with the left hand.

With this golf club grip, you’ll feel a bit of pressure in the last three fingers of your left hand, and a slight bit of pressure in your two middle fingers of your right hand. You would ideally want to maintain this pressure throughout the swing. After some practice you will begin to achieve your maximum swing speed and distance, all the while staying accurate. Good luck!
